Jewellery making 2400 years ago

Humans have been making Jewellery since stone ages, they did not had Morden tools and metals, they used to make Jewellery from dried coloured berries and straws, then they learnt to refine metals from ore and made mind blowing innovation, one of such example is Lothal in Gujarat India, Lothal was one of the earliest Morden dock, it was also one of the world first dock, Lothal is an important archaeological site discovered in 1954, Lothal dates back to the time of Indus valley civilization 2400 years ago, even Christ was not born by then.

Lothal is an excellent example showing how important was Jewellery making 2400 years ago, in those times Jewellery was used to display status symbol by men and woman both, and making stone, beads, gems, shell ornaments was a big technology, excavation by archaeologist shows that Lothal which was dedicated to manufacture its own Jewellery had its own Shipping dock and had Copper smelter furnace where they use to draw fine copper wires in which beads, gems, stones, shells where attached.

The Jewellery was exported to countries in Europe and Middle East which had great demand, normally wore by Kings and Queens, they used to sell these Jewellery by weight, Lothal civilization had developed its own units of weight standards, as today we have for diamante schmuck they used to make bead armbands like we make today of gold armband out of Gold wires and pearls.

The jewellery technician in Lothal used special tools to drill micro holes of size 1 mm on gems and precious stones with great accuracy similar to the halsketten aus silber ( necklaces made of silver ), today we have high tech computer controlled drill bits, imagine how they would have managed 2400 years ago ?.

All this vanished due to heavy floods and it was buried under 20 feet of earth, in 1954 some archaeologist discovered this and since than they are getting several new historical evidence showing that Lothal was as good as Export Zones of this 21st Century. It’s place to visit.
